abstract

background and aims: several drugs are being used in treatment of hsv infection in human but still introducing an effective safe drug is desirable. methods: we investigated the inhibitory effect of morphine on replication of hsv in vitro. results: the results indicated that a concentration of up to 200 ug/ml morphine had a limited effect on vero cell viability. at this concentration the growth of hsv was inhibited considerably and after the third passage in presence of morphine it was completely diminished. presence of viral antigens in infected cells in presence of morphine by if staining showed that after the first passage a small number of infected cells contained viral proteins and at the third passage no cells with viral antigen was observed. conclusion: this was confirmed by page and immunobloting techniques. electron microscopy observation in cellular section indicated that there was no virus present in treated cells as compared with control untreated infected cells.

Effects of Sodium Valproate on the Replication of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1: An in Vitro Study

Background: Sodium valproate, an anticonvulsant drug, is reported to stimulate Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 and Human cytomegalovirus replication. Since epileptic patients undergoing sodium valproate therapy may suffer from various virus infections, the effect of this drug on replication of viruses especially those affecting neuronal tissues such as Herpes simplex virus type 1 is worthy ...

The Changing Epidemiology of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 Infection: The Associated Effects on the Incidence of Ocular Herpes

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) with a worldwide distribution has been reported in all human populations, resulting in a clinical spectrum of infections. Although HSV type 2 (HSV-2) is known as the most common cause of genital herpes, an increasing number of cases with genital herpes are caused by HSV-1. The present study aimed to discuss the changes in the epidemiology of HSV-1 infection i...

Replication Characteristics of Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) Recombinants in 3 Types of Tissue Cultures

A complication in the analysis of the role of ICP34.5 gene in the herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) lifecycle is the presence of overlapping antisense gene, open reading frame P (ORF P), which is also deleted in HSV-1 ICP34.5 negative mutants. A HSV-1 wild type strain (17+) ICP34.5/ORF P deletion mutant (1716) is totally avirulent in animal models and impaired in a number of in vitro function...

Inhibitionby Trichothecene Mycotoxins of Replication of Herpes Simplex Virus Type

The efiects of the trichothecene mycotoxins diacetoxyscirpenol, neosoluniol and T-2 toxin on the rep}ication of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) in HEp-2 cells werc examined. The 50% inhibitory concentrations for HSV-2 replication were 2,3 ng,iml for diacetoxyscirpenol, 52,Ong/ml for neosolaniol, and 1.6ngl'ml for T-2 toxin, The addition of these toxins to the cells within 4hr atter HSV-2 in...
